As discussed in the documentation meeting here: https://forum.aux.computer/t/minutes-from-sig-documentation-meeting-on-2024-05-11/591, the SIGs and committees page is currently too obscure, it makes more sense to move it out from contributing.

What is Matrix?
Matrix is a chat protocol, providing a similar experience to chat services such as WhatsApp, Discord or XMPP.
